ACL Injury

Evaluating grade 1-3 ligament tears to design conservative or reconstructive treatment paths.

An Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury often occurs during pivoting, sudden deceleration, or direct impacts in sports. Dr. Sai Dinesh diagnoses tear severity using physical Lachman tests and high-definition MRI scans, building patient-specific pathways ranging from targeted muscle strengthening to advanced keyhole surgery.

Understanding Severity

ACL tears are classified into three grades based on ligament damage:

  • Grade 1 (Mild Sprain): The ligament is stretched slightly but still provides joint stability. Treated conservatively.
  • Grade 2 (Partial Tear): The ligament is stretched and partially torn. Requires rehabilitation and bracing.
  • Grade 3 (Complete Tear): The ligament is ruptured completely, causing knee instability. Recommended for ACL reconstruction.

Treatment Modalities

1. Conservative Therapy

For low-demand patients or Grade 1 tears. Bracing, swelling control, and hamstring/quadriceps strengthening.

2. Surgical Reconstruction

For active individuals or Grade 3 tears. Minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery replaces the torn ligament with a high-density autograft.
